Transition Year

Hello and welcome to Coláiste Dún an Rí Transition Year (TY). TY is an optional year that takes place after 3rd Year, once students have completed their Junior Cycle exams, and before they enter the Leaving Certificate programme in 5th Year. It is designed to act as a bridge between the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes. It is available to all second level schools and currently approximately 75% of schools offer the programme.

The TY curriculum in Coláiste Dún an Rí is built around the needs and interests of our students. It capitalises on the talents and expertise of our teaching staff and seeks to develop links with our local community, enabling students to strengthen their sense of connection with where they live. The focus is on building skills that will be of benefit to our students in their day-to-day lives and better prepare them for their educational journey going forward. TY in Coláiste Dún an Rí targets and aims to improve the skills of communication, creativity, managing myself and working with others. I hope you find this page useful and informative and that it will give you a taste of what Transition Year in Coláiste Dún an Rí is all about. You will find as the year progresses information on the TY curriculum, links we have developed with partners and friends in our community, articles written by students on the different events they’ve been involved in.  I hope to make this year as enriching for all our students despite the current challenges of Covid-19 and its restrictions.
